Biken
We offer more than 470 km of sign-posted MTB trails throughout the holiday area Lungau. Most of the biking trails are paved and perfect for families. Mountain bikers have many options to face the challenges of the mountains. Different levels of difficulty (from beginners to pros) have something to offer to everyone.
A special tip for families and “take it easy”-bikers is the Mitterberg panoramic trail: about 200 metres altitude gain, max. incline 12%, approx. 30 km.
You should go anticlockwise, avoiding the steep hill to the castle near Moosham. Go along the Mur on the Schattseitenweg towards Tamsweg, then over to St. Andrä and up to Mariapfarr through the village Linsing, which you’ll find lightly sprinkled with beautiful old farmhouses. Continue the trail over soft hills to Mauterndorf via Bruckdorf and Seitling: Below the lovely castle with its museum you will find the historic market square. Leave Mauterndorf towards Begöriach, passing by St. Wolfgang (small church). The biking trail Neuseß leads you to another highlight of the Lungau: Moosham Castle. It also features a museum worth seeing. The last descent down to the Mur Valley closes the circle.
Cycle Route Tweng-Lanschfeld:
Profile: approx. 600 difference in altitude, max. 12% incline, approx. 32 km, 1121 m to Tweng with small hills, starting point Mauterndorf.
Coming from the historic market square in Mauterndorf pass the Castle Mauterndorf on the B99 through the Tweng meadows. The small village Tweng lies at the foot of the Tauern Pass.
There is a gravelly road to Lanschfeld with gorgeous scenery and the possibility to master the Tauern Pass.
